A Brazilian-born Frenchman of Lebanese ancestry. That clears that up, I always sort of wondered.

I’m fairly certain he had some government-supplied help - likely from the French.

Japanese justice. Lebanese justice. It’s not so long ago that both would have had him beheaded...

I’m shocked someone would escape house arrest conditions. Absolutely shocked.

How big are their diplomatic pouches?

Lebanese media reporting he was smuggled out in a case for musical instruments? Must be a roadie case of some kind.

Honestly I’m surprised he didn’t do a runner way earlier in this process.

You won’t find me throwing too many stones. Not prison > prison. Give me some hookups, money, and sanctuary, and I’m all for dodging accountability.

Welp, one mans justice is another mans injustice. Usually depends on which side of the bars you stand.

To be fair, the Japanese legal system is awful.
You can be held for 23 days without charge (initial 72hours, then ten days and a further 10 days added) ,
Lawyers are not allowed in the room during interrogation ,
Not legally bound to record the interrogation,
They can interrogate you from 10am to 11pm with police and prosecutors taking it in shifts to force a confession.

Yep, if you are a foreigner suspected of a crime in Japan, you’re screwed, even if you are innocent.

Many foreigners on lesser charges (non serious) are just encouraged to confess and get the ordeal over with sooner as sometimes the sentence is shorter than fighting the system.

Wonder how is compares to the Lebanon’s judicial system.

I’m torn, because yeah the Japanese justice system isn’t the most fair, especially to foreigners, and yeah if he were Japanese they probably wouldn’t have brought these charges even if he is guilty, but I’m also not a fan the rich being able to buy their way out of crime and just jet off to some non-extradition country. And from what I’ve read he probably was breaking the law, even if that sort of corruption is usually tolerated.

I think Lebanons legal system would be more to what we know in our countries in that it’s based on the French judicial system, while there is also a degree of Islamic law it isn’t what many in the west have as a stereotype o f middle eastern countries. Which commonly is a one of an unjust, religious totalitarian country.
Though that’s assuming the Lebanese want or indeed have a case against him. The charges he faces in Japan may not even apply to Lebanon.
Japan will petition for Ghosns return, but Ghosn can simply apply that he wouldn’t be allowed a fair trial, on his return to Japan and Lebanon could block any extradition.

The US Judicial system might be a little closer to the Japanese system than the French system. The difference being rich people can buy their way out of our system.

That’s just a shame and not a fair and just system.

I like to imagine he jumped out of the window of his house while a rager of a party was going on with a briefcase filled with cocaine in one hand and a snub nose .38 in the other.

I wonder who will play Ghosn in “Escape from Tokyo”... can’t see Kurt Russell in the role.
